Toulouse School of Economics

This course is an introduction to dynamic macroeconomic theory with applications to consumption/saving behavior, capital/investment decision, labor demand and supply, asset prices and public policy.

Organization

  • The course is taught by Patrick Fève (1 group) and Franck Portier (2 groups).
  • Teaching assistants are  Simon Fuchs (sfuchs.de@gmail.com), Shekar Thomar (stomar.dse@gmail.com) and Kunal Khairnar (kunal.khairnar@ut-capitole.fr).
  • Evaluation:  40% for the mid-term exam, 60% for the final exam.
  • References:  There is not a textbook that we follow closely. A useful textbook is David Romer “Advanced Macroeconomics” 4th Edition, McGraw Hill, 2012 (see chapters 5, 7, 8 ,9, 12).
  • Plan of the course: 
    • Chapter 1 – Two-period Equilibrium Models
      • 1-1 An exchange economy
      • 1-2 A production economy;
    • Chapter 2 – Models and Methods in Macroeconomic Dynamics
      • 2-1 The permanent income model;
      • 2-2 The dynamic labor demand model;
    • Chapter 3 – Business Cycle Models;
    • 3-1 Two simple business cycle models;
    • 3-2 RBC models.
